Muni Leaders Want Pot Guidance
Officials from the Illinois Municipal League are pressing legislators for guidance on the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act, which legalizes marijuana use in Illinois. The association says its 1,300 member governments want to know more, including about at-home cultivation and how they can spend the proceeds from taxes generated by pot sales. Officials are considering a trailer bill to the act ahead of its implementation on Jan. 1.
Gov. J.B. Prtizker yesterday extended medical provisions of the bill that he signed law in June that made Illinois the 11th state to allow recreational use. The law sets a 30-gram maximum for marijuana possession, as well as limits on concentrate amounts and THC content in edible products. Councilors in Kendall County are examining zoning rules for the siting of dispensaries.
